WEEKEND WITH MABLY

Last weekend was the workshop with Brandon Mabley of the Kaffe Fassett studio and author of the above. The whole weekend was fabulous! This event was hosted by the very gracious ladies at the Alamitos Bay Yarn Company. Not only was the venue right on the water but the lunches were catered and so-o-o-o-o fantastic that any thought of dieting was tossed in the bay.

We worked very hard learning his technique, which is the same that Kathy taught Francesca, and then interpreting the color scheme from a post card into a readable and lovely work of art. He has an interesting approach to color in that he is working with already established colors of yarn and not creating his own color. This makes you very conscious about what you need to combine to create your palette--darks and lights can switch their value and intensity depending on what they are placed next too. Lots to think about.

Tomorrow am off to knitting camp to relax and sit and knit for the next three days in the hills above Redlands. Lucky me!

NIGHT OUT

Stopped by that new shop that is on my way home, "That Yarn Store" to join their Friday night spin-in and who should show up but guild pal, Janel Laidman. The family that owns the store is very friendly, atmosphere was comfortable and company great. It was nice to spend the time decompressing from another in what seems to be non-ending series of hideous weeks at work.
